VA’s abortion ban is questioned on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON – The Department of Veteran Affairs’ nearly 30-year abortion ban received a critical look from lawmakers Tuesday, some of whom argued it was a “harsh” inequity for a growing number of female veterans. A law passed by Congress in 1992 prohibits the VA from performing abortions or counseling women about them.
